The Importance of Sleep (A Lesson I Learned the Hard Way)

“I used to think sleep was optional… until motherhood proved me wrong.”

Before I became a mom, I heard sleep was important. Like, sure… eight hours, drink water, the usual advice.

But now? Now I feel it in my bones.

Sleep isn’t just “nice to have.” It’s foundational. It’s the difference between surviving the day and actually showing up for it.

Somewhere along the way, everything shifted.

I stopped thinking about sleep as just my need, and started seeing it as a full household priority:

What helps me get better sleep What helps Husbae get better sleep And most importantly, what helps baby get better sleep

Because when one of us is off… everyone feels it.

What surprised me the most is how underrated sleep is—until it isn’t.

Because the truth is:

Everything I want to do in life is contingent upon how well I rest.

My patience. My energy. My creativity. Even my ability to enjoy motherhood instead of just powering through it.

As a high-achieving, career-driven woman, I used to quietly judge people who built their lives around sleep routines. The blackout curtains. The wind-down rituals. The strict bedtimes. I thought it was… excessive.

Now?

I realize they weren’t doing too much. They knew something I didn’t.

Sleep is the real luxury.

And let’s talk about the glow-up effects:

Better skin (like actually noticeable) Faster recovery when I’m sick Improved nursing and overall body regulation A calmer, more present version of me for my baby

And for my little one?

Sleep isn’t optional—it’s essential for their development, growth, and ability to regulate their tiny, still-learning world.

So yes, I’ve officially exited my “sleep is optional” era.

And I can say this with full confidence:

Prioritizing sleep is never the wrong decision.

And yet…

The irony is not lost on me.

I’m writing this… as I navigate a random wave of insomnia.

Because motherhood loves a little plot twist.

And once I stopped fighting sleep, I started curating it.

Not in an overwhelming, overhaul-your-life kind of way—but in small, intentional upgrades that made rest feel… elevated. The kind of pieces that signal to your body: we’re safe, we can unwind now.

Because if I could go back and give myself one piece of advice as a new mom, it would be this:

Stop trying to power through exhaustion… and start supporting your sleep.

And once I realized sleep was the foundation for everything, I started investing in it—strategically. Not expensive-for-no-reason items, but small, high-impact upgrades that made falling asleep (and staying asleep) so much easier.

The kind of finds that feel like a reset button after long days… and help you feel like yourself again.

I’m putting together a list of my favorite sleep luxuries that are actually worth it—because good sleep isn’t just about discipline… it’s about design.

And once you experience better sleep?

There’s no going back.

And if you’re ready to actually make your sleep feel better (not just hope it does), here’s what helped me the most...

Real talk.. 🤍 I used to think I just needed more sleep… but honestly, I needed better sleep.

A few small upgrades completely changed how rested I felt — nothing overwhelming, just simple things that made nights smoother and way more comfortable.

If you’re in that “I’m tired but can’t figure out how to fix it” phase, this is exactly where I started:

These are all things I personally used and loved — no fluff.
